Mathable is a mathematical strategy game played on a board, where players use numbered tiles to form valid equations. The objective is to score the most points by creating equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The game is played with tiles numbered 0 to 9, which players draw from a shared pool at the start and throughout the game.
Each player begins the game with seven tiles. The board features a grid with certain spaces that offer score multipliers, such as double or triple points for a tile or equation. Players take turns placing tiles on the board to form valid mathematical equations.
To make a move, a player must place at least two tiles to create an equation, either horizontally or vertically. The result of the equation must also appear on the board, either by placing a tile or by using a number already present on the board. The first move must pass through the center square of the board.
Equations can be as simple as 2 + 3 = 5 or as complex as 12 ÷ 3 = 4, provided they are mathematically correct. Players can use existing numbers already on the board to help form their equations. If a player cannot make a valid move, they have the option to pass their turn or exchange any number of tiles for new ones from the pool.
Tiles must be placed adjacent to each other, in a continuous line, either horizontally or vertically. Each equation formed during a turn must be correct, and players are allowed to create multiple equations in a single move if they intersect with numbers already on the board.
Players score points based on the sum of the numbers used in their equations, with special board spaces offering extra points. For example, landing on a double or triple number space multiplies the value of that number. Bonus squares can also multiply the total score for the entire equation.
After completing their move, a player refills their hand by drawing tiles from the pool to maintain seven tiles, unless the pool is empty. The game ends when no more tiles can be drawn, and a player uses all their tiles, or no further valid moves can be made.
Players must think strategically, not only to maximize their own score but also to block opponents from making high-scoring moves. Players can challenge an opponent's equation if they believe it is mathematically incorrect. If the challenge is successful, the player must remove their tiles and forfeit their turn.
The winner of the game is the player with the highest score when the game concludes. Mathable encourages players to practice and improve their arithmetic skills, as they need to solve equations quickly and think ahead.
Strategic placement is key to success, as players need to use bonus squares and prevent their opponents from accessing them. In addition to basic arithmetic, players will need to employ logical thinking to make the best possible moves.
Tiles cannot be placed randomly; they must always be part of a valid equation. Players should look for opportunities to use multiple equations on a single turn, as this can yield higher scores. Equations cannot use negative numbers, fractions, or decimals—only whole numbers are allowed.
Mathable is a game that balances competition with educational fun, making it suitable for all ages. The more players practice, the better they become at spotting complex equations and high-scoring opportunities.
